Yesterday and today's outfits. 2 days worth of outfits for several days' worth of going missing from the blogosphere from some time last week. There's really not much to share about this week and last week either. At least not a lot of good news to share. A lot of things going on this side of the world is bad news, instead. Let's not dwell on that however. It's just...all bad and depressing. National and inside the island issues, yes. You'd think Mindanao Island in the Philippines is sunny and warm and paradise-like but at this time, it's really not...that...much a paradise.

It's around 30 degrees and up, 33-36 to be more specific, Celsius here so it's definitely hot. Very hot. It's close to the regular body temperature, even. Yet, the weathermen on the news say the rainy season is upon us. I definitely hope it cools down a little more. Otherwise, I'm happy being mostly in shorts and mini skirts until then.

These were taken minutes before it rained and while there was no power/electricity in the area. I was in the middle of watching some episodes I missed of Kamen Rider Ex-Aid when the power died...yep. Anyway, back to this outfit, I think a lighter wash of the denim vest fits this dress more but I don't have any and it works fine with the dark wash variety so...well...whatever works, works. And yep, I wore these white gathering kamote tops (green leafy vegetable) for the green smoothie I was concocting today that I'd be drinking tomorrow...lunch time or dinner. I'm pretty much back to the green smoothie drinking spree these days which is a good thing. I've been meaning to get back into it since before.

Did I really forget to update on the World Team Trophy in Japan this year? The outcome? Team Japan got the gold!!! Yay! My favorite male figure skater, Uno Shoma, of course retains his number status as a splendid figure skater in Japan and worldwide. Now I'm looking forward to the new grand prix season. Kind of sad that Murakami Kanako has announced her retirement at the World Team Trophy gala as well. A lot of the older, really good skaters seem to be retiring one by one. Last time, it was Takahashi Daisuke then recently, and before Kanako, Asada Mao and now, Kanako. Team Japan still seems as strong as ever, nevertheless so I'm at peace with everything going on in Japan's and the world's figure skating scene, I think.

Really dramatic real life, no drama clothes. If only they can be one and the same then the world would probably be a better place somehow...

Regarding this pair of bleached cutoffs...I just had to, like, DIY my own pair way, way back when half-bleached denim shorts were a thing. I think Zara had something similar a few seasons back. Definitely, you can be trendy or in fashion without having to spend much...and that's what I like about being into it.

Lighting is too bright in this area apparently. The photo here and in the previous outfit post are evidence enough I probably need to find another place to take outfit blog photos from. Ironically, I shot this near-sundown, basically golden hour. And I'm going back to the favorite by the gate photos next week.

Beauty and the Beast film was watched, in this get-up, with the best girl friend this afternoon...in 3D. It's because we weren't able to catch the 2D's earlier airing schedules. There's not much I could share on it except that it's pretty by the textbook (of the original fairytale except for some added parts here and there to make the film appear lengthier).

Ideal weather out right for a beach trip...an unplanned one on a Saturday inspired this one. I'm currently itching to go, unfortunately the good ones, mostly the beach resorts are an hour and a half away towards Balingoan, way past Jasaan from the city proper here. It'll take a bus ride to make it there, tops. That is if one didn't drive around here...yeah, I don't. I'm a not so good driver, to be honest, and city driving scares me to bits.

It's probably not ideal to wear this pair of boots, comfortable for walking around as they have been proving to be, around the beach but likely, I would...still. I am that...weird, it seems. But when I do get tired of the ankle boots and stomping around resorts/the beach with it on...this is going to ensue:

Obviously, it already has telltale signs of how abused it has been since that fateful pool day with the bff in Xavier Estates Club and Country House...

And they're proving to be the easiest to wear on the way to run errands out. This adds a bit of masculinity to shapeless t-dresses I own in multiples I also grab as frequently as I do this pair of san...err...mandals.

It's the UAAP Cheerdance Competition on TV today. Nationally televised, as per usual. I'm opting out of watching, however. I don't know either. I only ever watched tv yesterday for one South Korean reality tv program and I've been tuning TV stuff out the whole week in favor of other things to do. I don't usually watch a lot of TV anyway. 

And yes, finally got around to fiddling with the hair and braiding a small portion of it somehow. A nice change for the usual down and messy 'do.

Polyvore-d today because I had a headstart on what to do with wellies? All I know is...this would totally be something I'd love to wear out today while doing some random shopping close by...or maybe to tea or coffee with a friend or two.

For two days and a night now, it's been raining intermittently and mostly, it's strong rains hence the inspiration for this set. I'm still forever on the lookout for the right wellies to this day. Sometimes I look into what Zalora has or what Primadonna on their physical stores have...or I'm thinking of going True Value on this one as I found a few of those there last time. 

Hopefully there's minimal rain at the pool come Monday as that is the current plan with the best friend.

Oh and nude everything for the win!

computer angel

So Close (2002), a Hongkong film production still remains one of my favorite movies to date so this halloween was a homage to Lynn's computer angel identity there. Such an action-packed film with a trio of bad-ass Asian females So Close is and Shu Qi is eternally beautiful to me. Re-watching the film reminds me still of how cool Nokia 8210/8250s were and how they could do tons of things way, way before smartphones existed.

I spent the really long weekend watching Halloween specials on TV from Rated K to Jessica Soho to Kababalaghan...it's been sort of tradition for me since young and a fun one at that (I'm probably weird for being someone who enjoys really scary halloween specials of regular local lifestyle and news programs at this time of the year while my peers avoid them for being too scary and as such, giving them nightmares throughout the night...then again, I'm a huge fan of everything horror minus so much gore so...). How'd you spend yours? However way you did, hopefully it was as good as mine was.

Also, a bonus because tumblr was being cute during Halloween. They probably should do something like this for Christmas and maybe even Valentines Day, eh?

Sometimes I like to dress up really girly in white, off white or cream and dusty pink and pretend I'm just around Ginza, the posher, girlier part of really vast city, Tokyo. Was I able to get their style right? No? Yeah...I don't really know either.

And then there are times like this, when it was threatening to rain though still pretty hot and humid (typical oven-like temperatures in place like these that's only a few kilometers or so from the equator), I have to spring for the parka. It can be quite relieving to have this around when it's cold and raining. Especially when it's raining. It is raining hard tonight. I'm good at being redundant, yes. 

This bag is becoming a favorite since getting it from my aunt last Christmas. It's just the right amount of cute---since I can only tolerate cute in the smallest doses---and edgy black to complement some girly stuff in the closet and even those that aren't really that girly which, coincidentally, I own in large quantities. I dress too much like a tomboy...on an island I sometimes think to myself I should've been born a boy. But...I'm happier being a girl and having too many options for dressing (and especially high heeled ankle boots I'm currently thinking of acquiring soon) so...yes...there.  

Every female here must be a-buzz for H&M's opening tomorrow at Ayala Centrio. I'm going there with the bff and frequent hang out buddy and shopping buddy all-in-one to play, hence I'm sleeping early tonight.  

It's my camera stand that's having problems hence the photos where the backdrop is askew. I probably need to get a new one or something...hmn...

Sometimes I like to dress like I'm in boho-land. Sometimes.

The last time I wore this top/dress out was on a trip with an aunt to Iligan City. This one goes well with a slip underneath best, it seems. Probably one of my best thrift finds after a few other things in the wardrobe. It works well as a cover-up, too, on a beach/pool weekend trip.

The CLN wedges chosen by the uncle (one of my favorites among my mum's about 7 siblings---they're eight in the family) finally put to good use, spicing up an otherwise dull outfit of the day...thing with other pops of color items. One can never have one too much accessories to liven up a dull black and dark denim blue palette.

Gap t is very, very comfortable (secondhand gap stuff are really good aren't they?) and this is in medium so I had to cut the lower part of it a few inches down so it'd fit well and not really go past the cutoffs at all---making it alright to look at un-tucked.

There seems to be more denim cutoffs in the wardrobe more than the regular denim shorts for some reason. Hmn...

This is pretty useful on a daily basis by the way. Just kind of sad this isn't available in the department stores here. /cries. It's a pretty fine find at Marshalls or maybe it was some other store in the US sometime last December 2015. Definitely beats the yellow one I often use.

I have so few shoulder bags of the huge, spacious kind. This one from mum is one of about two, I think.  And a lot of the huge spacey bags I have are sling bags...including the really almost microscopic ones I use most days of the week when going out. Still, I hardly ever really use this one as the tote bags often are the ones to get much use for their convenience and the huge space they offer that beats this one's.

The ring watch totally doesn't work anymore. It's from an aunt so it's only worth wearing decoratively. I'm not too fond of watches of the working/functioning kind for some reason.

Random music talk: last night was listening to Rachel Platten's Wildfire album/record. Her Lonely Planet is officially a personal favorite. Today's is Halsey's BADLANDS record's. I'm usually a fan of electro/synth-pop like Halsey's work/s but I do like me some regular soul/r&b-type/hinted pop music, too like Platten's.

Back to regular blog posting because internet is finally back and more stable than before. I don't have to rely on pocket wifi anymore that's not only slow but also, really damn difficult to use when you're uploading photos and stuff that it only exacerbated some personal issues I'm still trying to deal with.

I'm partial to a lot of bodycons but I always have been into them anyway, just...I hardly get to wear them out unless they were skirts and stuff. This Uniqlo long shirt/tunic dress of sorts is actually a thrift find from eons ago, way back when the night market here was still thriving. I just never get to wear this thing out a lot as it's 3/4th sleeves long on the arms, very cozy yet warm and not appropriate for this 365-days long almost eternally summer weather/climate in this part of the world. I just thought about busting it out now because I thought it would be perfect for the not so cold, not so warm, cloudy weather situation of sorts outside. It's already the first of the -ber months so that explains the crazy, unpredictable weather/climate. It's usually the rainy season for us here and it makes me still itch to get the right wellies to wear when walking out in the rain and such granted it's again becoming a constant, and will be the case at least until December to January or even February later on.

I've also been busy traveling with an aunt two weeks ago so that explains the absence as well. I wasn't able to take photos because I suck. But we did get to go to an island beach strip across Hagonoy Island in Mangagoy and swim there to our hearts' content on the last day of our trip there, right before going home to here and the family vacation house in Jasaan the next morning. We also got to swim with the stingray in a fish-pen on the second day of the trip which was pretty scary and just amusingly weird at the same time. The ones taking care of the sea creatures in the fish pen assured us that the sting-rays' barbs have been removed so it was safe enough for just about anyone to swim with them then. Pretty cool experience all in all, and 10 times better than swimming at Enchanted River. As an aside, I've been to Enchanted River twice in this lifetime but never did I, in the two times I've been there, take a dip in the thing. I'm unnerved by it for some reason. The first time I went there, I just wandered around and people watched. Swimming in Britania is way, way better than swimming in Enchanted River and I'd even take an annual trip to Camiguin over that one either. I think the situation at Enchanted River just reminds me so much of the number of times my grandmother took me and a cousin to the cold springs for swimming. Cold springs are known to be terribly crowded with locals and visitors alike here so I generally avoid them. If I'm there, I don't even bother swimming (not a fan of cold water) and would much prefer the hot springs (Ardent in Camiguin Island being the closest and my default favorite) deep in the night until midnight.

Highlight of the trip, definitely so much sea food. We got to eat sea urchin...different kinds of sea urchin. Fresh ones were had when we were in the island on the last day of the trip. My pescetarian heart was happy and satisfied then. 10/10, would definitely do all over again even if the 12 hours travel time by bus was the hardest part of it. A long drive from here to there would definitely be more ideal if one is able to drive and have his/her own car/vehicle.

in east asian tradition: on toku wardrobe

I watch a lot of tokusatsu (Kamen Rider, Super Sentai - Japanese super heroes on early Sunday mornings, Japan time). Like, a lot. I think I might have established that in some of my previous posts. I'm admittedly a Japanophile but no so much an aniota/otaku or worse, a weabo. I'm already done with that phase of my life. I guess I just have a healthy appreciation for the Japanese nation, culture and general lifestyle. If you followed my occasional public posts on LiveJournal, you'd know. Going back to the topic of tokusatsu: sometimes, I wonder if I just watch tokusatsu to look into their casual wardrobes...Super Sentai has really good wardrobes per main ranger/sentai character as they are often designated their own colors when the transform and de-transform in the show these days. Some Kamen Rider shows have really good wardrobes as well---Kamen Rider OOO comes to mind.

Ressha Sentai Toqger casual, un-transformed wardrobe is currently what I'm obsessing on. Plus, the series has a pretty solid plot although the last few episodes seem so rushed to complete the whole series. It has a kiddy/childish premise but in true tokusatsu tradition, there's also something intangibly grown up about it. I'd like to think it's because it's always been the way Kobayashi, Toqger's head writer, structured this and every other work she does for the sake of Toei's toku arm...Kamen Rider OOO has a pretty similar philosophical theme to this one. They share the same head writer after all. This deeply philosophical theme (although one that isn't so difficult to comprehend even for those slow on the uptake) is something you have to look deeper into while watching every toku series she makes, whether it's Kamen Rider or Super Sentai.

Toger's Red, Right (played by actor Shison Jun---obligatory: he's so adorable, right?! /cries) in this collage makes me want to own a varsity jacket in the same color, predominantly red and also with an R in it. The color-blocked sweater on the last picture to the right and the, what seems to be a knitted color-blocked jacket/sweater hybrid on the opposite end are also pretty covet-able. As for the printed shirts with hoods in here...yeah, I'd go for them. The prints aren't too overwhelming plus I love hoods just about everywhere including regular t-shirts. I live in an eternally summer region of Asia, however, this fully loaded wardrobe isn't really something conducive here. It's more appropriate in the areas of the world that experience 4 seasons or those where it's cold...eternally (*shudder* I wouldn't live in a place like that...I thrive in the heat, I won't survive extreme and even the mild cold) I can dream... 

As to Right's defacto regular wear in the series: the varsity jacket with the R monogram, I like it so much but personally, I prefer Goseiger's Alata's Skyick jacket. I remember obsessing on it so much once but I had no idea to what occasion and where I would wear it and even if it would fit in my all too casual and dull, mostly casual wear wardrobe. I'd probably wear it out for cosplay but I don't cosplay, so... I also remember, at one time, really wanting Alata's dainty-ish wing earring. I tried sourcing something similar as it doesn't seem to be so difficult to look for online but most of the ones I found were pretty medium-sized to gigantic. They aren't fitting enough to be worn casually on a daily basis. Something microscopic and light would be more apt for everyday wear. Bonus points if the wing design is on a light, medium-sized chain and dangling.

 

I like red, don't get me wrong. I wear the color on some days in sparse amounts because being decked in color isn't something I'm known for but blue---coincidentally, also Toqger Tokacchi's color---is my color. Rather, it is my favorite right up there with the white shade and the black shade. Also, shirt (and the more feminine alternative, a dress or even just a white or black t-shirt) + vest? Count me in! I don't think I'd wear patterned vests like the ones on Tokacchi, though. The ones I keep staring at but never really ended up buying because none of them felt me at that time at a thrift store in Dumaguete City now makes me feel regretful why I never tried actually acquiring one of them for realsies. One of them would have been great to use to emulate an Olsen twin's (Ashley, if I recall correctly) street style. I'll look for a decent one next time. My trip to the US, specifically in Long Beach, California, to spend time with the maternal side of the family I've been missing so much might just yield me a decent vest for street wear on some days.

I'm more of a Mio-girl than a Kagura-dainty-type-girl but I can take cute and dainty in small doses. I tend to fixate on feminine Ginza street styling on females (see Tokyo Street Style's site for it, their Shibuya healthily edgy ones are to die for as well). Something tells me it's time to invest on a blush jacket or coat of some sort...along with a pair of over-the-knee stockings in several plain black, semi-transparent pairs that Kagura sports so well in the rightmost snap of this collage. The latter continues to elude me although I found some of it in olx.ph somewhere then lost it again. Yep, back to olx.ph it is to search for something similar and ebay.ph as well. 

There's no Hikari here because for some reason, I can't connect with his style. I do like some of his sweaters and shirts. The cargo pants...hmn...I used to sport something similar and even more baggy when I was in 4th or 5th grade...they used to be the rage. I'd consider that an embarrassing phase of my fashionable (?) childhood life growing up. Yeah, I grew up a tomboy and less feminine in terms of dress. I'm still often garbed in everything tomboy-ish. There's a reason why I put up even Right and Tokacchi in here... (I tend to wonder if I should have been a boy in this lifetime because I'd dress like Right or Tokacchi if that were the case...maybe in the next life...)

More than the plot of the story, it was the wardrobe of Kamen Rider OOO cast that really drew me in to watching and finishing the series. Especially the show's designated heroine, Hina's. Eiji's bohemian-eternal wanderer style was arresting, I'd be lying if I didn't admit that here, but it's always been Hina's I'd been crazy about as the series went on.

Lots of pretty dainty florals; dainty, airy dresses; healthy amounts of denim; rad wide belts; and gladiator flats and heels to complete the look and some occasional oxford flats. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. This might have been the thing that pushed me to purchase two denim and floral mixed material airy dresses in Bangkok on one trip there with an aunt... I'm still searching for a decent wide belt somehow. I'll find one, one day, even if its the type with the garter at the back or something.

Satonaka's varied white or cream blazers---want. You can never have too much of it. Satonaka's edgy, bad ass all-black look with the right leather jacket---want. I have a somewhat similar cream bordering on white blazer I thrifted in Dumaguete City before going home this year that I've just as much worn to death everywhere. It's taken quite the beating if it's never taken any before. It's also become defunct airport wear recently on top of white ts and black skinny jeans with zippers on the ankles. I'll experiment some more with it.

And a bonus...

....random thing. 

I won't be caught dead channeling gothic lolita like Satonaka in the left here but I'd sport a random neko-mimi (cat ears) headband occasionally. Only very rarely, when I'm feeling playful, most likely. I was able to nab a decent sized cat ears headband that's also pretty fluffy when touched from a 20 (vente)-peso store in Robinson's Place Dumaguete a year ago or so I sometimes just wear around the house as a headband to keep my hair in place. These things are a fun thing to play with. For those like me here in Cagayan de Oro, I've seen similar, so much more cuter ones in Comic Alley in Ayala Centrio. I just liked the plush Mokona (from Rayearth and xxxHolic if anyone watches or watched those animes and read the mangas---I'm looking at you, Clamp fans because I went there one time although I already outgrew my Clamp obsession/fixation) figures in Comic Alley along with a few anime novelties that can be incorporated to some daily wear and activities and not so much the cosplay costumes. The only time I'd probably cosplay or go out as someone else is during Halloween. Note that I don't join anime/Japan-related events and conventions here in the Philippines. There are some in my locality but having had minimized my anime-watching and manga-reading---I only follow Hunter x Hunter now both in anime form and manga form---I don't see the point of me going to the conventions... 

Right now? I'm currently working my way to finishing Kamen Rider Drive two to three episodes, one night a week until I finally get to rewatch the first three Kamen Rider Ghost episodes and catch up with the rest of the series. Waiting for the release of one Kamen Rider Ghost episode a week, subbed by wonderful people online in English then resumes. This is me, rewatching Kamen Rider Drive but it's only because I felt I didn't pay a lot of attention to it on the first, while I was watching it per week, per episode the time it was airing. Kamen Rider Ghost is the rider series that's currently airing at this time. Shuriken Sentai Ninninger---a ninja-themed super sentai---also isn't finished yet (it replaced Toqger when the latter ended). Regarding this one, Ninninger's story development has got me lost recently and I just find it boring and dull now that I've altogether stopped following it. No idea when I'll pick it up again or if I ever will. I'm this close to deleting the whole series in my hard drive.

I'm also looking forward to watching about three currently airing Jdramas, two of which do not have English subs yet but stars Takeuchi Ryoma (Kamen Rider Drive's Tomari Shinnosuke, titular kamen rider/main rider/hero) and Kiriyama Renn (Kamen Rider W's Hidari Shotaro, the Joker half of W). Oh and also, catching up to the funny livaction manga adaptation that stars the guy who played Kaito in Kamen Rider Gaim (the rider series that preceded Kamen Rider Drive). It's a fun high-school set jdrama that's still pretty relate-able whatever age the viewer may be.

like in spain but not really

Middle of last week was for a number of things: errands in the vast metropolis up north (I was running around Metro Manila with the family) and a quick vacation in Bagac, Bataan, where some of my mother's relatives had a house by the sea in. Beautiful, ideal place to live in but the local language, Tagalog, isn't exactly my first language. The place isn't for me.

On the upside, we were able to check out the new resort called Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. Participating in the day tour there with a superb tourist guide was pretty much like living how the ilustrados and other sorts of Filipinos of the past lived.

I was this close to getting a couple of trinkets from a shop by the resort's playroom before I stopped myself, telling myself I didn't have a lot with me. Oh, and this one shop in one of the houses by the resort's entrance had pretty tempting organic products although they really cost a lot more than my usual brand: Human Heart Nature. When I was told the after-sun spray I picked up cost Php 1, 200, I noped out of there quickly. The packaging of what they sold in there were pretty and marketable but price-wise, I suppose even Healthy Options (which, by the way now has a branch open here in Cagayan de Oro, in our own Ayala Centrio) have cheaper stuff than those. Personally, I'd still go with Human Heart Nature. The only thing purchased in there were 6-7 pieces of their self-baked pan de coco and a jar of cashew cookies. I only consumed a tiny bit of the latter. The cookies can be washed away by tea, yep. Yum.

Ran an errand for mum then running more errands in the afternoon which includes stopping by the PRC office to get my teaching license renewed. Definitely loathing the sun today and changing into a pair of leggings to look even more unkempt before I head down to the mall to inquire about something, not so much as to shop as I haven't done that in eons now all the while wishing I were in a pair of denim shorts or something airier...like, maybe a skirt instead. Nothing's stopping me from dropping by the Robinsons' department store by Ayala Centrio today to check if they have any more basics like the baseball t I wanted for quite awhile now I could abuse almost daily, though so definitely something I'd do today.

Test drove the nth pair of ankle boots recently acquired from the Payless Shoes branch in Centrio today as I ran around Pabayo-Gomez Sts. and then to Velez-Hayes Sts. for random errands. It says its Fioni on the purple and pink girly box and the tag. I don't know either. It was on sale at merely 800+ Php and thus was too hard to resist. (Plus it reminded me of one of the older Jessica Simpsons I fell in love with or that Jessica Simpson Callian ankle boots I've been meaning to get, only simpler.) Needless to say it was my first foray at the Payless Shoe branch in Ayala Centrio right after lunch with relatives and the family yesterday. I browsed through their branch in Lim Ketkai Center not too long ago and found a few things I liked but never bought anything until this happened yesterday. Hmn...probably one of the most chaotic stores around due to how footwear is arranged though there's really not much people in it save for me and the couple of women with a kid whom they were buying school shoes for. One dutifully examined one of the boots I was about to pay for at the cashier probably wondering what I'd use these for. Notorious ankle boots wearer. Yes. 

The two doggies wouldn't move away earlier today...end result: the second snap. They're probably two of my favorite beings inside the house. Fluffy. Check. Tiger-like and fierce. Check. They're shih-tzus. Semi-miniscule toy-dogs.
